As luck would have it, two 15’ Chestnuts came up for sale on my route north to my new home in Maine, so I’m going to pick them up this week on my one more round trip. One is a 15’ Chum that fell or a car and did some damage to the stem area, the other is a100 year old 15’, might be a Chum or Bobs, I’ll know when I get there. This will keep me busy over the winter in Maine #thewaylifeshouldbe

It’s always a treat to come across a beautiful boat. Looking forward to the restoration photos this winter.

HAHAHA ! I thought about sending you the link but I knew you would find them as you are on that FB group too.

I have a two car garage barn that currently holds 0 cars. Has a workshop and storing 17 canoes. Have more room too. The hayloft door is a must . Our boats are all light otherwise we would also have davits for lowering. Second floor storage is very handy.

I would take that as a good omen for your move Robin, and that four car garage will sure come in handy. What does a four car garage translate to in canoes anyway, 8, 16, maybe 32???

I was hoping that I was done buying canoes but I guess not. I’m a sucker for wood canvas Chestnuts.

Erica, I’ll be posting some pictures for sure.

Fitz, I was hoping you might ID that older canoe. He says it’s 2-3” narrower than a Bobs but it has wide ribs and no can’t ribs. Do you have any idea? 15’ maybe an older Bobs before they widened them?

Yes YC, I had 4 on a rack in the loft here, had to hurry and fix/sell them before the move, the new house in Maine actually has a 4 car garage plus a second 1 car garage ready to be my new canoe shop, hence the new project canoes.

Hi Robin,

I might need some more pictures. The easiest way to prove a canoe is a Bob's is to look for the thinner ribs. They cut down on the rib thickness to save weight.

I don't know if any of these will help with an ID, isn't your Bobs a "before fire" Chestnut Fitz? These ribs look like standard thickness, but I could be wrong.

Turned out to be a long day, so I messaged the seller and we will see what happens down the road.
