There are a couple of consistent themes with long trippers. They meet amazing people that are generous and offer lots of help. They run into some terrible weather and learn to deal with it.
I like canoe trips of 7-8 days. I have tried some 3-4 week trips in an RV which is pretty cushy. After that length of time I am ready to go home, because home is so perfect. We live at 5,000 feet with great scenery and a one million acre back yard. The family joke is that the best scenery on our trip will be right before we pull out of the driveway.
I urge anyone that has long trip aspirations to do it while you have youth on your side. Take a leave of absence, a sabbatical, or quit your job. Many people dream of the really long trips. I used to but not any longer.
The writing in this blog is way above average.
