Love the Garmin forecasts:
Precipitation : 0” Heavy Rain

So I'm not just making this up. Darn, wished I was.

if I'm where forecasts are questionable, I use my own mini weather station for forecasting

Q: What do you use?

I queried "The Hallucinator" which provided the following. No clue if any of it is accurate.

When you are deep within Quetico Provincial Park where cellular signals disappear, your Garmin inReach Messenger fetches its weather forecasts from meteoblue. The data delivery path works through a combination of global modeling and satellite technology:

• The Data Provider (meteoblue): This is a leading global meteorological service that uses a multi-model approach. Instead of relying on a single local Canadian weather station (which may be far from remote sections of Quetico), meteoblue combines multiple regional and global weather models with historical observations and current real-time data.
• Location & Elevation Customization: When you request a weather update, your device sends its exact GPS coordinates and altitude. The system computes a localized forecast specifically tailored to that point in the wilderness rather than giving you a generic report for the nearest town like Atikokan.
• The Transmission Network (Iridium Satellite Network): Because Quetico has no cell coverage, your request is transmitted up to the Iridium satellite constellation. Garmin’s servers pull the custom forecast from meteoblue and beam it back down to your Messenger device.

(Note: If you happen to request a weather forecast while you still have cell service or Wi-Fi at the outfitter or ranger station before heading into the backcountry, the Garmin Messenger app will pull the exact same meteoblue data over the internet to save your satellite data allotment.)

Living in Idaho, I'm used to unreliable forecasts from all sources.

When in the Bowron earlier this month, my experience with the Inreach next day weather forecast was that it was pretty accurate with the wind, but a few hours off with rain (usually came later). There were some localized and brief minor showers that weren't predicted. Hourly forecast goes only two days into the future, which seems to be standard with other weather apps and about all I would trust even a little anyway.

The way I understand it is the device itself provides only real-time wind direction & speed which is more critical on a canoe tripping voyage than rain in my opinion. Not helpful at all when contemplating pushing into a 14 mile long lake the following day. What I am seeing on the phone ap is different, as it provides a week long forecast with 3-day, every 2 hour, details including wind.

I think that was the case with the mini. The 66i gives two days of hour by hour wind, rain, and temps.
