No, I will not fling you beads from a Bourbon St. balcony. I am not allowed back on Bourbon St.

But it could be interesting to see how folks are storing their boats.

That one started as four 4 x 4s concreted in the ground, with old 10 foot long 2x6 deck boards as crossbars. The crossbars are topped with 2.5 inch PVC pipe with a slot cut out so the canoe with flange washers slid on slippery easy. I would tie the boats down anyway, but absolutely with that slippery PVC pipe cap.

A four+ boat extension was eventually built off one side. In short Honey Do order, because SWMBO mentioned that the canoes on sawhorses in the yard looked trashy, and I that should just build an extension to the rack. The two additional 4x4s where concreted in the ground the same day.

Hmm, whoda thunk it? I see four boats in that photo that need reflective tape. I think I will wait until it is warmer out.

Inside space storage is limited to one shop wall. Those boats get dusty as hell, but a wood gunwale canoe, a couple clear coat glass and nylon boats and the Precious, My Precious MRC Monarch, all live indoors along that far wall.

Racked on beefy brackets with beefy 2 inch screws into the wall studs. Augmented with cam straps through eye screws in the ceiling joists for belt and suspenders, uh, suspension.

And a couple feet of vacant shop floor space beside that indoor rack to store a clean, dry and warm boat candidate for the next shop work on short sawhorses.

If only I could. I need to bring the Live Aboard Miramichi back in soon. It is outside on horses, armor encased in a solid inch of ice and refrozen snow. I hit it with a rubber mallet to no avail and my son, watching out the window, burst out laughing. dang kids.

Sorry, no pic available but I store most of my canoes trapeze style. That is, with one trapeze at one end and just a loop at the other. Quick, dirty, and out of the way. That leaves plenty of room underneath and I can get them out and put them back up by myself. The W/C is on padded sawhorses though.

This is strictly temporary

This is a 48 ft trailer that MDB and I bought to store our stuff in for the next year or so, while we build a new house. This photo is a bit dated, both sides of the trailer now have racks strapped in place, and much, much more household stuff and funiture.
BTW, everyone that has seen the trailer can't believe it was only $1,900...Oh, and everyone wants it when I'm done with it!!
Currently have 5 boats inside it, still have 3 more to put in after more furniture is moved in.

Mines a bit tough to see. It's on the 2nd floor of the barn and there's not a lot of room to get a full shot. There are 6 canoes in the rack, 2 SR Quetico 17s on the bottom, a Swift Prospector 16 and a 17' Wenonah Spirit II in the mid and a 16' Bell Morning Star and a Swift Kee 15 on the top.

I keep my paddle crafts in three places. All my whitewater canoes and sea kayaks and some tandem canoes are on wood racks outdoors but under my back porch. They are all in various stages of rot, decay and UV oxidation. I don't feel like taking a picture in 20 degree F weather.

Four of my most used composite solo canoes are kept indoors in that cathedral of carnage known as my garage, which I'd be embarrassed to photograph.

For many years while I was active, I kept a fleet of three different crafts on my van all paddling season. The picture below is from 10 years ago, when I was leaving to work in Florida for a year. That sub-fleet -- a Lotus Caper canoe, Surge sea kayak, and Huki outrigger canoe -- stayed racked on my van for the entire time I was in Florida. So, I have a voluptuous wandering gypsy rack.

Good for 5 canoes (one on the floor), shop is only 12' wide. I have a rack in the barn loft for 4 more canoes

How could you part with it? Unless YDB finds it distasteful on the property maybe plant some trees around it and in a few years it will be hidden in the landscape.

Unless you are a hoarder. One of my cabinetmaker uncles could not bear to throw away a usable piece of wood. He had two of those on his property, packed with wood. Tetris packed, when you opened the trailer doors there was a solid wall of flat stack. Gawd only knows what wood was stashed 40 feet back.

Robin has ghosts of wood canvas canoes past. Looking forward to seeing them shirk their shrouds, and attain living colour.

PS
Here is my cold canoe under tarp amidst the junk.

We have a space issue in the boathouse. There are racks for 8 and 10 are in there. The Morris is sitting on the floor and the super heavy duty strongback I built is on the lowest level under the yellow canoe. Oh, we have that one in the shop too but it has another home.

Racks are us .001.jpg

Heyyyyy....look at that, we actually have half (5 ) of them finished. Five and a half if you count the partially done Langford on top of the y stern. We're winning!!!! The Mattawa doesnt really count though so its really 4.5 out of nine. We seriously need to reorganise this mess...lots of wasted space.

We just need to get rid of some boats. The Langford and Peterborough will go when done. The Penobscot can go too when it is done. We can send the Y Stern down to Robin for his Fall Hunts. That thins down the heard a bit for the others that will be built.

I use a combination of wall racks, trapeze hangers, and sawhorses for my canoes. All are stored indoors;12 in my "loafer's shed" and 11 in the garage
Wood for wall racks & trapezes was "legally" obtained from construction site scrap piles. I use older/retired NRS straps on the trapezes.
My cost was minimal to construct varied hangers; a few eye bolts, and some deck screws.

I do not currently own all canoes pictured; those that I have sold have been replaced by others.
4 or 5 are in varied cleanup/fix up/paint up conditions. Plan to sell at least 3 to 5 boats in the Spring.

My wife says I am compulsive/obsessive when it comes to canoes...........
She was not expecting any type of apology; nor should anyone else. :^)

One of the highlights of our trip two years ago was getting to rummage around in the loft of Pam Wedd's barn in Parry Sound. She has quite a ghost fleet stashed up there too. We couldnt pry any away from her though.
Doug Ingram has a bunch in Lorette also, and same problem. Not ready to part with any yet.

Oddly enough, they both have rivers running through their property. Not oddly, there are boats everywhere.
