Photo of the day

Beautiful!. I’ve spent a lot of time on and under that lake! And many of the nearby ones. Three years of fieldwork as a field bologist up there are some of my fondest memories. If you have a mask Chickenbone lake had some amazing snorkeling a few decades ago.
Wow! What an amazing experience that must have been to do fieldwork there! Were there a lot of leeches in Chickenbone then? They are voracious these days, attaching themselves to any exposed skin in seconds. There are usually a few attached to the bottom of the canoe also.

I've canoed across the inland lakes of the island three times, and this year finally had calm enough conditions to make the exposed crossing from McCargo cove to Pickerel Cove and through the Five Fingers all the way back to Rock Harbor.

This is what conditions were like the day I paddled out of McCargoe Cove into Lake Superior.IMG_4632.jpeg

Yea. We paddled and snorkeled around a lot so picked up a few here and there. Some days maybe a few hundred, of course we were in the water more than normal people would be.
We were studying Unique Aquatic Invertebrate Communities of the Inland Lakes of Isle Royale National Park.

Rivière Dumoine, Quebec
Duration: 7 days including 1 layover

In 2003 I met these guys online and replaced Dave (orange canoe) for a Moisie River trip (last trip I did in a tandem boat). Since then I've done many river trips with them although they have rarely been for more than 5 or 6 days. I hope to do some long trips if their obstacles of family and jobs ever allows for it before I am unable.

For this trip they showed up with 3 brand new Pocket Canyon's. I paddled my battered yellow Mohawk XL14, it developed a significant leak during the last 3 days, not anything serious but every hourly smoke break included a sponging session.

A leak…??? In that boat ? I don’t believe it….

Haven’t been on here in a while, but I’m still paddling. Not even sure what my last post was. Here’s two photos from a solo trip I took early this spring. I decided against bringing this moose skull home.
