Nice O.G. Bell Merlin

I had a Merlin a long time ago and now I have a Merlin II.

That looks like a Merlin II to me. The Merlin name on the stern does not look like it came from the factory.

My Merlin II.

You might be right about the Merlin Emblem, looks off compared to the catalogue. I had a Merlin II as well, but I can't see why anyone would try to pass a Merlin II off as its predecessor.

I'm not sure what it is. My (selective) memory is that the Merlin had much more vertical stems than Merlin II like the boat on the link but the boat on the link also has the Merlin name in a font that looks like the FB ad If it's a Merlin I it's the first one I've seen in black/gold.

I agree that there's no logical reason to misrepresent the boat but I've seen quite a few ads where folks don't know what they have even after a little research.

Oh, folks get the ID wrong all the time. But in this case they would have deliberately had the Merlin decal placed on the stern, so I'm thinking maybe it's legit. If it were here in the NE, I'd be inclined to pick it up and we'd know for sure.

Yeah, I've been trying to ignore that. It's half a day's drive from me, but I'm not even going to contact the seller and ask about it's identity. Trying not to buy any more canoes until I get the sailboat sold.
