I was fortunate to receive a review copy. It's a richly illustrated text with 400+ pages of content and 300+ photos. It's written as a history book that traces the origins of dugout canoes in North America and the overall evolution through bark craft. all wood canoes, wood canvas and finally modern synthetics. There's even a chapter on Canoe Tripping that offers a quick recap on some influential trips and explorations (MacKenzie, Thoreau, Sevareid, etc). Posted a full review on my site, link below:

Thanks Murat for the heads up , now I know what to ask the bride to fill my stocking with , just having McPhee writing the forward says alot , sometimes read his essay titled " swimming with canoes ".
