After the celebration at Churchill Dam I drove south into the Penobscot River Corridor area to give my new Swift Keewaydin 15 its first trip. I paddled up into Poland Pond for the first night

Sunset on the beach south of the island campsite

From here I move over to Round Pond Campsite and headed out thru Daggett Pond to make the carry up the stream into Shallow Pond.

Fortunately this is moose country so when I \ran into blow down there was a moose trail to get around it.

Shallow Lake is VERY shallow at the outlet and as my canoe passed over the water erupted in bubbles. The muck on the bottom was fluid and my paddle found no bottom. I didn't spend a lot of time up there and turn back to the carry.

On the way down I got onto the opposite side of the stream and found a large patch of Large Purple Fringed Orchids.

And then there was a nice patch of Chanterelles that made supper at lot better.

Back down in Daggett I floated directly under a Bald Eagle

Good deal, congrats on the new boat, she is a sweety! Wish I was there instead of looking at 4 concrete walls and 90 degrees and 95% humidity on a late Friday summer afternoon...
