I have a friend who wants to paddle this river. Does anyone have first-hand experience with It? I would appreciate any information you can share. Thanks
no but there is a significant rapid just before the junction of the Saco below Limington Rips.
Probably because there seems to be no good takeout above that and the rest is oxboowy our group prefers the Ossipee River to the north. Put in at the Kezar Falls Dam ( below) and take out on the Saco just below the 5-117 bridge. Both are pretty easy accesses.
The Ossipee is a cool river. Gives you very little settling in time before you hit the waves or rocks.. We usually do it in the spring. It was my annual battle with the Argosy.. ( I always lost) We have found a canoe on the installment plan there. 1/3 down for 1/3 canoe higher up toward the start 1/2 is another 1/3 of an Old Town and the final installment just before the junction with the Saco
