Good weather yesterday so I installed the roof rack on the wife’s new RAV4. The crossbars don’t point the same direction; the bars’ profiles are at different angles.

Also, the factory rails on the car are not parallel. The rear feet are 3” inches closer together than the front. On my Explorer, I’m able to swap the front crossbar/feet with the rear and vice versa. The RAV4 will have separate front and rear units.

Now I’m wondering how the crossbar angles will impact the canoe cradles.

Just wondering what your rack set cost you (if you care to disclose). I may be looking at a newer vehicle and would be in need of a new rack, or used if I could locate one.

Consider the type of roof rails on your new vehicle. I have a Subaru Crosstrek with raised roof rails. I got a rack set - mounts, bars, and locks - by Malone for $219 (Cdn). That's about what Thule or Yakima would charge you for a plastic knob. Roof racks and roof boxes (i.e. large Tupperware) are, in my view, some of the most overpriced things you can buy.

Pretty nice day here yesterday also. Put a third bar across my Tacoma and cap. Lots of nice support now.
Just need a new solo boat to attach to them now.
