I snagged a fat little frog of a canoe off of craigslist last week. It was grossly misrepresented as an Adirondack Canoe Company 'Algonquin' model - the seller inherited with his barn and didn't care to dig too deeply into it - but after a few phone calls I've ruled that out.
ACC does indeed have an 'Algonquin' model, but they've never made it as a tandem, and they've only been making canoes for four years. This boat has been sitting in a barn for probably twice that time. It's either been appallingly treated, or appallingly repaired (or both), but for a few hundred bucks I'm happy with adding it to the fold.
If anyone knows anything about this model, or anything about who made it and when, please let me know. It's Kevlar, about 12'6", 40lbs, and a whopping 39.5" across the beam. Despite that, it heels beautifully, and the only immediate issue is a few cracks in the very prominent keel that I'll have to address before I put it on the water for any length of time.

The hull identification number (HIN) just below the rail on the starboard stern can probably answer most of your questions. Can you post a picture of that? There are at least four Adirondack boat builders as shown below.

I couldn't find SCS, but the 888 is a good bet for a date of manufacture, thank you. What site/resource are you using to find HINs?

@Benson Gray HIN search reports that it's made by Scotts Custom Boats in Arizona...which seems to be a powerboat accessory company. Apparently several makers have used the SCS, and Scotts is the current holder. "Stowe Canoe and Snowshoe" here in Vermont, maker Bob Hartt, seems most likely at this point - they were bought out in 1991, making the Aug '88 date plausible. Thanks for you help.

The official Coast Guard site at https://uscgboating.org/content/manufacturers-identification-detail.php?id=11548 shows that Scott's Custom Boats in Arizona is currently using that prefix but Stowe Canoe, Stowe Canoe and Snowshoe, along with South Coast Seacraft have all built boats with that prefix in the past. My guess is that an Adirondack canoe company from 1988 may have had Stowe Canoe build some for them on a contract basis. There are a variety of HIN search services available but I believe that they all are based on the Coast Guard database. The link below will let you search that directly. The page at https://www.usps.org/national/safety/HIN/HIN.pdf explains the two different formats. Good luck,

Benson

Here's a fellow member with the same logo on his (much nicer) boat, so I think the Stowe-Allagash-Adirondack connection is solid.
