I don’t remember when I came to this forum, but I remember new software after a long time of a different format. So how long has Canoetripping.Net been around? I’m thinking around the millennium or early 2000s.

The canoetripping.net domain name was first registered on July 23rd, 2011. The first website using that domain appeared in a search by the Internet Archive's Wayback Machine on April 19th, 2012. Your profile indicates that you joined on November 14th, 2018. Others here may have more detailed information.

The site was migrated from the vBulletin software platform, which had become increasingly and intolerably buggy, to our Xenforo software platform in late August 2021 by me after I became the owner and administrator on August 18, 2021, and was reopened after that migration and a complete reorganization on August 30, 2021.

Willis posted a thread on Lake Lila on July 31, 2011.

Then with my permission, he posted my trip report on the Little Tupper Lake to Lake Lila traverse on August 2, 2011.

As always, we owe a great debt of gratitude for Glenn making the site as beautiful as it is and for Robin for being the site manager for years. And then there was also another site manager, Dean? Sorry I don't remember that name for sure. If I have neglected anyone, my apologies.

When was the change to this platform? I think I’ve been on here since before 2018, although it may have been under a different username.

What I really need to know is what do I get for all my points?

Willis and I were making plans for a trip together...
I was trying to remember the lineage of site operators, pretty sure there was someone between Willis and Robin.
Some help Glenn? Or maybe Robin will chime in.

There wasn’t anybody between Willis and myself. When the site went orphaned the popular consensus was that it was finished. I sent an email to the hosting company explaining the situation and for $25 I was able to become the new owner. I had absolutely no idea what I was doing but I kept it going till it was time to move on after a few years. Thankfully, DougD saw that I was pretty much finished and offered to take over, I was forever grateful. He did a very good job running the site in spite of the difficulties with the platform. Dave O never really got going as an administrator. Thankfully, Glenn took over and took the site to its current level of excellence. When Glenn decides to move on I only hope the site remains the same with a new administrator.

I'm not positive, but I think guest was Mike McCray. It went from Robin to Doug D to Dave O to Glen

Many of the posts Mike McCrea made in the vBulletin days now identify him as "Guest", but that generic name also applies to a lot of other posters from those days. I don't recall exactly why, but our webmaster said it had something to do with administrative actions under vBulletin that would not migrate some names properly to Xenforo. In any event, I know Mike wasn't posting here in 2011 threads because I alerted him to this site's existence in 2012 after I joined.

To complete this history of administrators, there was another who took over for Robin in July 2013 but only lasted a few weeks. His name was Brian, a Floridian, and he went by the handle Drift Wood.

I don't know what happened with Brian except Robin quickly took the site back until he passed it to DougD in 2017.
