Just tell her it's a sit inside open deck kayak.
I wish it was that easy. I'm probably going to have to swap with her for a while and let her try it out, she may go for it then but no promises. She's paddled that yak all over Louisiana and Texas, it's got a lot of fond memories attached to it. I'm honestly not going to push it, she definitely DID NOT like the fact this past weekend, that I could just walk away in my canoe.
She's really competitive, I'm just gonna stay quiet and let it be her idea.

Maybe you just need to buy her a pack canoe, such as this:
Hornbeck Boats
I'd think it would be hard to go back to a plastic kayak after paddling (and carrying) one of them.
Then you could use it when she doesn't come along....or buy one for yourself.

Classic Canoes | HornbeckBoats
Classic pack canoes have beams of 28" to 30". Their lines are curvaceous, with hollow cheeks in the bow and stern and a rounded belly in the middle. The net result is a very user-friendly, stable boat that's well-suited for the average paddler and perfect for fishing, photography and carrying...www.hornbeckboats.com
