Got a case of gunnel rot.

Hello all,

Been a little too busy to stop by. It's wonderful to see this site blossom the way it did. I believe Willis would be very happy with the results. Robin, et al, you did good!

Would anyone know of a canoe repair shop within a reasonable drive from North New Jersey? Most of the woodwork in this 16 foot canoe seems reasonable but the gunnels need replacing.

I've asked in other forums and have a few good suggestions and would like to add yours.

Call Blue Mountain Outfitters in Marysville, PA near Harrisburg. I don't know anyone who has had a canoe rerailed there, but I have several friends who have had other repair work done there and everyone felt they did a top-notch job.

Do you have any pictures? Depending on the canoe, making and replacing your own gunwales can be fairly painless.

Second BMO. Great outfitter, quality people and their repair and outfitting shop is top notch. Not many outfitters are willing to dedicate a portion of their establishment to a housing a repair and outfitting shop, tools and materials, nor keep a specialist on staff for such tasks.

What a hoot! I read the title of the thread and was immediately transported back to my service years.......

I never heard of or knew anyone who caught "gunnel rot" but it sounds awful!
