I still have a 1927 Johnson 1.5 hp outboard that has been in the family since 1948.
My Dad just passed this week at 101.
I had an old 2 stroke Evinrude on a sailboat for many years. It was from the 1970s and always a one pull motor. I would disconnect the fuel hose and run the last 1/4 mile to use up all of the fuel in the carb to keep it clean;
I had a Mercury 6 hp engine from 1963. Black and chrome made in Wisconsin, not Japan. Two cylinders. You could put a glass of wine on the top it would just sit there. One pull. Quiet. Wish I still had it. A mechanic tried to buy it off me.
Now i have a four stroke Tohatsu 6 hp motor. One cylinder. Starts easily. Loud and vibrates. But very stingy on fuel. and dependable.
