I still have a 1927 Johnson 1.5 hp outboard that has been in the family since 1948.
My Dad just passed this week at 101.
I had an old 2 stroke Evinrude on a sailboat for many years. It was from the 1970s and always a one pull motor. I would disconnect the fuel hose and run the last 1/4 mile to use up all of the fuel in the carb to keep it clean;

I do the same on my 4 cylinder 1958 Mercury Mark 55… although it might only go 100 feet without fuel! It’s on a 15’ mahogany runabout.
