Canoecopia 2026

I have to say I have a sense of foreboding regarding the future of both the shop (Rutabaga) and the show. How long before Darren just closes the shop, which was his original intention, and maybe gives up on the show.

As I have mentioned before, the whole North American paddle sports industry has found that the level of sales at the show is a good indicator of what the industry can expect for the entire season.

I personally wish that several of the Friday and Sunday presentations had been Saturday instead. There was not as much on the schedule Saturday afternoon that I was as interested in, and we headed back to the hotel for a break a little after the 2:15 presentation was over. Friday we were more interested in buying the things we were after (got a couple new paddles)and checking out a boat I had ordered, but we missed some presentations I would have liked to have seen. There were also ones on Sunday I’d have liked to have caught but we had a long drive and work the next day so I mostly just grabbed the boat and bolted before the weather turned. Bill Swift told me Sunday morning they’d had a really good show so far, but that he figured hundreds of people wouldn’t show up Sunday due to the storm, and that was based on hearing from folks telling him they wouldn’t make it and extrapolating.
