Canoe Rack for Carport

Learned a hard lesson the other night. High winds and I left my new T-formex Esquif P15 on saw horses under the car port. It blew over against some long handled ground tools, causing some linear dents. The gravel did the worst damage, little deep dents and scratches on the side, a few of the craters showing a white spot in the middle. I sat it out in the sun the next day and some of the lesser dents came out, but the high was only 52. I’ll set it out again the first hot sunny day, then I’ll touch up the craters with some tinted Gflex.

The last two days I spent building a canoe rack. The wood was not dry, so I’m waiting a few days to add the last screws before putting weight on the arms.

Now I’m so sore I can’t untie my shoes. A painful lesson in every way.

You've probably already thought of this but if not, be sure you tie your canoe onto the rack instead of just laying it on the arms. A good wind can still blow things around. Having it tied in should keep it in place; unless the storm is so severe, the entire structure lets go.

To add to snapper’s suggestion, my friend bought a pre made rack, it uses i-hooks and bungie cords to secure the boats into place.

I moved the P15 out. Sine the wood is so wet, I put some temporary end supports in there and will add screws after the wood seasons a little. EDM straps with eyelets.
