Hello Glenn,

Would it be possible for you to activate another function in the forum?
as in another forum ... there are buttons that, when pressed, take you to the top of the page... like so:

I find this quite practical, as it eliminates the need to scroll with the slider to get to the top of the page.

Best regards,
Michael

You don't have to have a button to do that. Every platform has a key shortcut. I use a Mac, so my key shortcut is Command+UpArrow.
It is field-sensitive, though, so if your cursor is in the reply box, for example, that shortcut will work but it will take you to the top of the reply box - where you already are.

OK, so I guess I need a button like that after all.

I don't have a MAC, nor do I want to have to leave my mouse to press a “key combination” that doesn't take me where I want to go.
Namely, to the top of the page displayed. ;)

I have an up and down button in the lower right of my screen (on my iPad). If I scroll up or down just a little bit it appears but then hides itself in about 10 seconds. I never use it because on the iPad if I just tap the top of the screen it takes me all the way to the top.

The page-up and page-down jump buttons (with an arrow inside) may have been implemented differently in the several different color styles (themes) we have available on the site.

I have just adjusted my control program to make sure that both the page-up AND page-down jump buttons appear in the lower right hand corner in all the color styles. They are "floating" buttons, which means they disappear after about 5 seconds so they aren't visually intrusive. Once you begin scrolling again, they should reappear. Let me know if there are any further issues or quirks.

hmmm ... I'm using the default style

and I do not see any of the page-up and page-down jump buttons. When I change the themes there are also no buttons.

I changed the browser to VIVALDI and there are the buttons visible!
So - my "problem" is Firefox Browser. How ever ...

Problem solved.(y)

Thanks to all.

Kahel, I use Firefox almost exclusively and the buttons are there in all color themes. Same for the Chrome and Opera browsers. Try switching among default dark, default light and default system, and refresh the page after every switch.

I did that... but without success.

I'll just chalk it up to a kind of "computer-voodoo" and live with the fact that it doesn't work on my system.
Whatever the reason.

You can obfuscate yourself into a cardboard box all you want. But you've already wasted more time on it than it would take to move your little finger off your mouse. ;)

Do the Cntrl+UpDownArrow shortcuts work in Firefox for you?

They don't work for me using a PC and Chrome

Those shortcuts work for me in Firefox on my PC but not in Chrome or Opera.

However, I have End and Home buttons on my PC keyboard, which will instantly take me to the top or bottom of a page. Also, I have PgUp and PgDn buttons on my keyboard, which will scroll me more slowly up and down.

Shift + Space bar in Chrome does the same thing as the PgUp key, but does nothing in Firefox.

Not the sort of information I come looking for on CanoeTripping.net, but this is helpful! The PgUp and PgDn buttons and the Cntrl+arrow keys work as described with Firefox on my Windows10 computer. It is a bit embarrassing to admit, but I'd either forgotten or never learned those shortcuts and have spent a lot of time losing a scroll part way through because the mouse slid off of the side bar.

I use Firefox on Windows 11 and it works as described. I just nudge the scroll wheel on the mouse and the two shortcut buttons show up. I didn't know about this feature until now. Nice feature!

Thank you, kahel for bringing this up!

no - I'm using Linux Mint in the latest version - also Firefox in the latest version
The “error” seems to lie somewhere in this combination ... because it works with the switches in the Vivaldi browser.
