We had a great paddle on Big Sauk Lake north of Sauk Centre, Minnesota. It is an impoundment on the Sauk River. The wind was fairly calm for a change, the temperature was about 68 and the ice has been out for about ten days. There are few power boats out yet and the bird life was abundant: Buffleheads, Mallards, Common and Hooded Mergansers, Grebes, Scaup and Bald Eagles. It is very pleasant to have a whole lake pretty much to one's self. Sorry, we just have the kayaks yet. The canoe has yet to arrive.
