Back to northern Quebec

I sent in my request to canoe camp on Lac Robineau, 100 miles north of Chibougamau, Quebec again this September (8/25-9/6) (nibiischii.com)
Last year I portaged into the much larger Lac Canotaicane, but this year I will just be happy to base camp out of my small wall tent on the 6 mile long Lac Robineau.
650 miles north of my home in Maine is a long way to go to base camp, but the place is so wild and pristine that it calls me back, and I’ll be happy to just while my days away around camp, paddling my Cruiser and enjoying great fishing. (Catch and release unless used for on site consumption)

Wow, it has been such a long time since I heard the word "Chibougamau". Fun to pronounce. My dad took me there on a fishing trip in the mid-1960s. We drove up in his International Scout jeep-like vehicle, long obsolete now. Great memories. All dirt road from Senneterre on north at the time. Return trip loop via Lake St-Jean. I recall that we had a very friendly rough looking First Nation's guide who could not speak English. We managed and did well. Thanks for the photos and memories.

I’m told the lake holds some big pike, and at the lakes outlet some great walleye fishing, probably will leave the fly rod home. Those long sandy beaches will be perfect to work on my poling though.

We drove through Northern Quebec on our way to Nova Scotia in July. Took the ferry from Saint Simeon to Riviere Du Loup. I used to think that we lived in the middle of no-where, but there was a five hundred kilometer stretch of road that ended with the turnoff to Chibougamau that was the most desolate country I have ever travelled through.

Sounds good but I don't have a reflector oven, heck, I never cooked bannock either, although I might have had some on group trips. Can't really remember.(happens a lot these days)
I need to get with the program.

Yup, gas prices in Quebec are high but I keep telling myself that it's now or never.

This week the Prospector and I eloped to the North Maine Woods. She's a keeper, but the Cruiser is a little lighter and has enough room for my outfit.

After spending 10 days camped in the North Maine Woods in the last 3 weeks, my desire to go to northern Quebec began to wane. I mentioned to Coldfeet on our recent camping event that I’m was having second thoughts about heading north this week also. Then I get a call from Chevy yesterday, the new truck I ordered 4 months ago is in so that needs to be taken care of this week too.
Sadly, I’m not going back to Quebec this week.

Hey, new truck takes precedent over everything! Those things are like a sasquatch riding a unicorn up here - unheard of!

I find as I get older, it's a lot easier to get "bushed out" too. I've spent a fair amount of time this summer in a tent, and I'm pretty sure I've had enough.
