I believe that the water level is almost always too low in the fall to start an Allagash trip on Allagash lake because there’s not enough water in the Stream to make it down to Chamberlain. But with all the water we’ve had this summer and are still having I wonder whether a trip in late September, starting from Allagash league would be possible.

We spent four days just poking about the lake. The colors were gorgeous
No need to go doenstream
This year though I thinknwould be fine
But Chamberlain has been nasty in Oct

A lot can happen in a month, but with high water now it'll probably be OK. They're still giving a "very experienced paddlers" warning about Webster Stream, and the river is ~2000cfs, about 3x the median for this time of year.

You might also consider making a game day decision. Sometimes a NMW checkpoint person can get an Allagash ranger on the radio, or you might find an actual ranger at Churchill Dam or Chamberlain Bridge.

Was speaking to my favorite guide yesterday and although not specific to Allagash Lake/Allagash Stream he said water was up very high everywhere.
