    Sharing packing lists

No Title My food lists are much more detailed and change every trip, but my main packing lists stay the same pretty much every year. Don't always bring everything for every trip. Still manage to forget something almost every time.

What have you forgotten on a trip?

Salt. Cutlery. Wine glasses. Harmonicas. Rain jackets. Light jackets. Maps. Charger cable for our InReach. Spare paddle. Throw bag (!). Recently we forgot our PFDs and realized it as we were driving up the 400. Called Swift Canoe and Kayak and rented a couple on our way north. I make lists...

    Best tripping coffee mug?

I use an enamel mug too, but red, not blue. It has many authentic chips on it which add to the appeal. BUT for truly leakproof, get a Contigo. They sometimes sell them in two-packs at Costco. Those things are awesome. I use it on my way to work/school and just throw it in my purse half-full and...

    What are you reading?

I just got four books in the mail! Two by Grey Owl (Men of the Last Frontier and Tales of an Empty Cabin, which I bought for one penny) and two by Sigurd Olson (Reflections from the North Country and The Singing Wilderness). Very excited to get started on them.

17-Day Temagami Tour PART THREE: Willow Island Lake - Lake Temagami

Thanks for reading, everyone! Murat V We were told that the paddle should be able to withstand some use, which was certainly not the case. We've returned it. The artist is creating a new batch with a thicker varnish to hopefully remedy the issue. You're right, they were factory seconds being...

17-Day Temagami Tour PART TWO: Florence Lake and the South Lady Evelyn River

Thanks, everybody, for the well wishes and for reading my long-winded reports! Robin My favourite part about the "good tent" cabin is that no-one has really messed with it. There's still a can of beans on the stove! dougd The shin is still rather sore, actually. I may or may not have chipped my...

17-Day Temagami Tour PART ONE: Lake Temagami to Florence Lake

Canotrouge We had great weather for the entire trip! A bit of rain on day 5 and then an evening storm on day 11. Day 14 was a full day and night of rain and there was a thunderstorm on night 16, but other than that it was sunny and pleasant. Maybe even TOO hot!

3 day father & son trip: Haliburton's Frost Centre

Glad you got to get out with your kid! Looks like you guys had a great time. Good for him to want to carry the barrel, too! I really like Haliburton Highlands.. a bit quieter than Algonquin, I find. Thanks for sharing.

Moon River Loop via Healey and Kapikog Lakes

Hey Murat V, no idea when the map will be made available but I did take some Google Earth screenshots and annotate them with portages and info if you'd like to see them! I can email them to you if you're interested. I should still have your address, let me know. I didn't add the portages for the...

Moon River Loop via Healey and Kapikog Lakes

Mihun09 ah, I see. Many Buckhorn lakes I suppose. We've done a bit more exploring a bit closer to the top of Healey Lake too. It's all crown land, and the sites are a bit bushy, but nice to get away from the motorboats. Last September we found a beaver dam 8ft tall!

Iskweo I'm really hoping the hot weather kills off at least the blackflies before next weekend! I was extremely lucky to get the holiday off work and I'm definitely going to make the most of it. That's neat that you and Karin used to frequent Buckhorn Lake! The island campsite was really...
