    McCormick Wilderness

McCormick Wilderness 5-19-2012 Group Members: Kaine and Ben Such a beautiful place. Maybe that is why it is so hard to reach its interior, especially by canoe. Where the water was deep enough it was a lot of fun with the scenery that I love. Never thought I would love to see beaver dams so...

    New Purchase - Day Pack

That does look like a nice pack. I have been eye balling CCS packs. I am not sure what size I would like though. My first big trip is coming up in a couple of weeks. After that I will evaluate what my needs and wishes might be. I am thinking the Traditional 2 would work best.

    Below waterline rivets

Does anybody know if rivets used below waterline are anything special or does a regular rivet make a water tight seal? I am looking to attach some small cable clamps to the hull to attach some bungee cord to hold my paddles while portaging. Thanks Kaine

    Hiking as shuttle

Has anyone ever hike to their canoe or car as a shuttle? I am thinking of a weekend trip that I would have to hike (about 11 miles) to my canoe and than paddle back to my car. How do you secure your gear (canoe, paddle, life jacket)? I plan to backpack about 5 miles in as I will probably arrive...

Taking canoe out of warm storage

This fall I was planning to take my canoe to the basement but a little bet with my wife (she said I would only use it for a few months a year, so I told her I would use it at least once a month) made me leave it in the garage (not heated). Is there any worries of taking a canoe from storage in...

    Map Miles

Re: Map Miles For anybody else that might be interested; I posted the same question on another forum. There were a few suggestions. Use a string that you bend to the shape of the river. Another suggested using a twist tie in a similar manner as the string (This seems to be the easiest to me)...

    Map Miles

What is the best (most accurately) method to draw/measure off miles on a river on a topo? I have a map measuring wheel but feel it is not accurate. It seems to slip around on my waterproof topo maps. Just curious what method everyone uses. Thanks Kaine

    Hi All

Re: Hi All Most places I have researched are not big compared to Minnesota or Ontario but seem like a good place for me to start. Big Island Lake Wilderness, Craig Lake State Park, Sylvania Wilderness, McCormick Wilderness are all located in the Upper Peninsula. McCormick seems to be the most...

    What are you paddling?

Re: What are you paddling? I have been paddling a Wenonah Argosy. I do also have a couple of kayaks. Dagger Callisto that I love to do local river races in. Probably the fastest boat I own, narrow and long. A Perception Acadia (now called Carolina 12.0) that does great in rougher water.

Happy New Year & Christmas Gear

Re: Happy New Year & Christmas Gear I got a couple of things sort of canoe related. First, NRS 3.8 Heavy Duty Bills Bag (as soon as they come in). The other thing Santa brought was Grace Digital waterproof case with built in speaker for my i-pod. This case is huge (compared to what I was...

    Hello from Western NY

Re: Hello from Western NY Welcome. I never owned a Grumman, but probably like most have paddled my share. I bought my canoe from Oak Orchard, it would have been nice to spend that shipping money on gear.

What is on your Christmas list?

Re: What is on your Christmas list? Being new to canoe camping and tripping, I need a lot of stuff. My Christmas list is a Portage/drypack (I am leaning towards Sea Line Pro Pack) and a solo portage yoke (might end up making my own).
