    Cedar strip wannigan

This project was inspired by another thread on this forum. I should have taken more pictures along the way, but I didn't. I made the forms to mirror the hull on the stripper. I'm not even close to being done, but here are a few pictures.

So... I hated to do it, but I jumped ship! I pulled the forms and I have decided to finish out the stripper! I must say that it feels good to see it right side up! Now for the fun part....

Nice work! That's one hell of a diet you put #2 on! Are you still planning on keeping the heavier one for yourself?

What is the most useful tool for strip building?

Clamps.... When you think you have enough is when you don't.

    Carbon Copy Kite

I know I am not very experienced in this type of build, but I have a couple things that I'm assuming. 1: more fabric means more resin consumption 2: more resin means more weight 3: foam core adds rigidity but also creates more potential for failure during a collision with unseen hard object 4...

What is the most useful tool for strip building?

I have only owned 2 rigid tools one was a compressor and the sander. The compressor had a short life as well. I have not used my sander very much compared to the one it replaced. I think they should have stuck with making pipe wrenches and plumbing tools.

What is the most useful tool for strip building?

Jim, I have the same RO sander that is in one of your pictures. I'm thinking mine is on its way out. Acts kinda strange when I turn it on. Have you had any problems with yours? I recall a post somewhere, not sure who it was, about having issues with a rigid sander. On another note, has anyone...

Dust collection is my friend! Whether it's a shop vac or full on dust collector, can't live without it.

Watch this masterpiece build video while you're dreaming of soft water

Wow! Patience is his virtue! I was thinking he might have used a chainsaw that was not shown. How would he have cut the slots to speed up the hollowing out portion of the build. What hand tool can do plunge cuts like that? Extremely impressive nevertheless! Now imagine doing that without the...

What is the most useful tool for strip building?

So, I'm very new to canoe building. I enjoy collecting tools, some might say I have a problem! I plan on building a solo canoe starting next fall, but in the meantime I would like to expand my collection of canoe tools! What are your favorites, ones you can't do without, most frequently used...

    NWC Cruiser build

No worries Jim. I want to build a solo as well, but I think that will have to wait until next winter. I don't think the boss lady will let me build another until then. If I don't hurry up I will still be working on these two next winter!

So I scrapped the mess of Kevlar that was meant to be a boat. I am not regretting it at all. The epoxy that I put around the edges to make the Kevlar stick to the mold stayed on the Dacron....not a good sign. That Kevlar gained almost no rigidity from the epoxy! I have some tune up to the Dacron...

Alan, Sometimes the best lessons are hard learned. Doesn't seem to Matter if we are told not to do something, we need definitive proof! Some might consider this a flaw, I consider it curiosity. My current situation is due to my occasional "bull in the China shop" tendencies. In the grand...

Jim, Once again, thanks for the encouragement! I'm definitely not giving up! Adapt and overcome! The guy I talked to at express composites today thought there wasn't much reason to put glass over Kevlar, but even at this point, the two layers of 4 oz made the test plaque at least 30% more...
