    proof of taxes payed

To register a 'new' canoe in minnesota, you must show proof that you payed sales tax. I noticed that some online sites arent required to charge a sales tax. So, if I ordered a canoe online, and didnt have to pay sales tax, what happens when I register it? Would I have to pay a tax then?

    polluted rivers

i doubt polluted waters would damage a hull, unless your canoeing in the Chernobyl River. Just heard concern about it years ago, was wondering if there still was any concern.

    polluted rivers

I remember 15 years ago people talked of how rivers here in minnesota can harm the hull of plastic or fiberglass canoes. In case your not from MN, our rivers are polluted with chemicals used on farmlands. Fact or Fiction?

    buying used

Live in minnesota. No title required in MN. I only know that a person takes the HIN to the license office and register it. Canoe I was interested in is located in minneapolis, 150 miles away. I guess a person could call the guy and ask for the number and have it checked out first.

One concern of mine if I was to order online, I would want the newest model. In other words, I dont want one thats been sitting around for 5 years, and since then, the model has changed a bit. Looking at pictures of canoes, I've noticed there are things the manufacturer changes throughout the...

    shipping charges

I noticed on Gander Mountain online, an Old Town canoe has shipping charges of $400. A Mad River canoe, of the same size & weight, has shipping charges of $50. Why would there be a $350 difference?

    tough decision

As far as what type of canoeing: Mostly lakes. Some slow moving river use. Sometimes solo, sometimes with a partner. Fishing, sightseeing, hunting, trapping. Hunting and trapping are hard on a canoe, so durability is a must. Might be times I canoe out to an island in the middle of a lake to camp...

    tough decision

All good advice that I will take into consideration. It seems though, most canoeist say the only 'good' canoe is a Royalex. True it is light weight. But I plan on the canoe being in the water more than on my back. I used to own a Coleman Ram X 17. I think a Discovery 158 would be quite an...

    tough decision

After doing tons of research on the canoe I'd like, I've broken it down to 2. Mad River Journey 158 or the Old Town Discovery 158. I like everything about the Discovery 158, except the seats and I wish it was a bit wider. At 35.5", seems narrow compared to others. True it would coast through...

    Jeep tie-down points

I have a Jeep Grand Cherokee. There is absolutely no where, under the bumpers, to hook or tie any ropes, to secure a canoe. Any ideas???

    mad river journey 156

I was looking at pics of the Mad River Journey 156. It looks like theres a sharp bend in the hull at the yoke, instead of being nicely rounded. Is this the way it is? Or just bad pictures?

    guide too wide??

Is the Old Town Guide 160 too wide? Im looking at the Discovery 158 & Guide 160 to buy. Mainly for small lake fishing. Some river use. Perhaps a little exploring too. I'd be traveling solo mostly. I like the Guide 160, but maybe its a bit too wide. 39.5 inches would be roomy, but hard to...
