Yep, I have bought some from him, although my preference is for old bolts with patina for restoration. I'll have to look into a chemical process to mimic the old patina when I use the new ones!
Thank you Robin. I bought this property, farmhouse and barn, 47 years ago. My first house! As a builder/contractor it always served as storage for materials and tools, and only in the last 5 years or so has it become a shop. Previously I did nearly all my work on client's sites. Fortunately...
Thanks Jim! Is yours an Old Town with diamond head bolts? I used 10 of them from my horde on this canoe, and I have 3 more Old Town canoes to restore. Please save them if you do have any! Seat frames too, regardless of cane condition.
Reading Glenn's post re: site member activity, his comments reminded me that users need to post new threads to keep the site alive. In that vein, here's a current project.
This poor old canoe, a 1938 Old Town 50 pounder- that's the model name; the weight is greater but that's how OT marketed...
That's a great trip report! Humor, pathos, retreat from adversity.... all highly desired in a trip story. Thanks for posting this. The St. Regis area is great. Next time, coming home, exit St. Regis into Green Pond via about a level 250' carry. Then the carry from Green to Little Clear is...
You just exposed my timidity! I thought about it... even paddled downstream a bit that way, but ultimately backtracked and then carried to Fish Pond (via Mud Pond) instead. It looked way too shallow at the time and I didn't want to trash my wood/canvas canoe bottom. I do imagine that early in...
Yes, absolutely. I have never had ‘traffic’ there. The float to Ochre is quite a departure from the pond paddling; it’s an intimate view of the wetland joining the two ponds.
Here's what it looks like:
My preference would be to visit St. Regis Pond via two options:
1) Start at the St. Regis Yacht Club off NYS Rt. 30 (there's public parking there) and go through Upper St. Regis Pond, Bog Pond, Bear Pond, Little Long Pond (East) into Green Pond, then into St. Regis Pond. All relatively short...
I just found this and it helps explain buoyancy values:

By these calculations, at my weight of 155# I need 7.75# of floatation. At 7.5# foam buoyancy for my Mustang Khimera vest, I guess it'll just barely keep me afloat! I had better...
Here’s mine.

I like the absolutely minimal bulk and no interference with paddling strokes. Its only downside perhaps is the small pocket. I can fit my...
Yeah... that appeals to me too. In the past, climbing in the Mont Blanc range, Chamonix, France I became enamored of "tartiflette". Doesn't get any better, and Kevin's meal is in the same vein.
La Tartiflette, for 4 people
1 reblochon (cheese)
1 kg of potatos
3 onions
250 gr bacon bits
salt...
