Carrying a gun when canoe traveling just because

Yes, I agree. These bears were not originally found in the San Gabriels. They were transplanted there in the 1930s from Yosemite. Black bears were not very numerous in California before the grizzlies were extirpated. In the last decade or so, they've moved down to foothill communities and...

Carrying a gun when canoe traveling just because

A little more info: The bear on the roof has two yearling cubs who have learned to open car doors and ransack the interior looking for treats. They've also attempted to enter houses by pushing on doors and windows. One got in through a bathroom window and roamed the house while the owner was...

This mama bear has been watching my granddaughter for a couple years. DFW won't do anything.

    Rowing the Beast

I actually have a Grumman rowing rig that clamps onto the gunwales. I need a better set of oarlocks, though, because the oars keep jumping out of the U. Other than that, it moves the boat very fast.

Imagine finding this on a wilderness trip

Those actually look like Bog Men I saw in a museum in Dublin. They looked like they'd been preserved in a giant vat of Guinness stout.

Which trip report format do you prefer?

    Look who’s back in town

What sort of gizmo are you using to hold the ropes under the hood? I used to drill my bumper and put in eye bolts, but everything's plastic now.

    Re-Purposing Old Paddles

Donate them to a fraternity. I saw them put to use in Animal House.

    Diagnose/Restore Canoe

I'm pretty sure that's a Michicraft. The painter attachments at the peak of the stems are definitely not Grumman.

    Dog Food Container

When we took our dog down the Allagash, we just carried a bag of dog food, no fancy containers. I mean, what dog is going to complain if its food is a little damp?

    Canoe Seat Backrests

I think they were originally designed for use on Grumman canoes, which is what we had. My wife liked them because she needed the back support and our PFDs then were the vest type with ensolite pads front and back. I could take 'em or leave 'em. Okay for lakes and open rivers but not so good...

    Canoe Seat Backrests

Coleman used to make a plastic seatback that hooked onto the seat. I still have mine and they do work pretty well.

Good Morning . Idle chat about your morning, your weather, your plans for the day.

Reloading 600 shotshells for winter league since Cabela's dishonored their $39 a flat sale.

    Way off topic

That list appears to have the sex terms for the fox and the giraffe wrong. Vixen is female.
