CCS tarp :)

I have been using the very same for years. I have had it set up in hellish winds without any issues. I like to have most of my guy lines elasticized, which helps a lot with temperature and moisture sag. Some here may debate whether ridgelines are best under or over a tarp. I am firmly in the over camp and thread my ridge through the loops. With all this said I have just purchased a new catenary cut Supper fly with door flaps. It will meet my hammock shelter needs much better but I do not think you can beat the versatility of a flat CCS Tundra Tarp. Enjoy and be mindful of the campfire sparks.

Conk, I like the idea of the door flaps, looked at the lean for a long time but decided on the tarp. One day I hope to borrow a friends hammock and see how that feels for a night or two.
And, yes I will be more careful of sparks with the ccs. I have a kelty noahs 12x12 tarp and noticed some pin holes from floating embers :(

You will like it! As for not having trees in the right spot, I usually bring one of these for my tarp. I also have an 8' nesting pole that will work as a center pole too. Haven't had to use it yet as I just throw about a 100' of paracord up and over a tree branch and tie it to the center loops on that CCS tarp.

CCS over the next unknown times may be having slower order fulfillment times. Karen my wife is in the final stages of Ovarian cancer that is going to claim her Inspiring life. I am privileged to be her primary caregiver during this time. Between the needs of hospice care in our home and just the numbness of grief as her passing approaches, business has been pushed back in my priorities.

I am still shipping a quite a number of items we have in stock and that our talented crew can sew without much of my involvement. Please help me by willing to accept a second or third color choice and planning ahead, and using email to communicate with CCS.

I thank you all in advance for all your prayers, vibes and well wishes. Hug your partner, friend and family and tell them you love them. Life is too short, to not let those around us know how much they are loved .

I was very sorry to hear that, and trust that folks who know and appreciate CCS gear will be understanding and patient.

One of the things that makes this little paddling community special (and one or two others I participate in), is that fellow members, some small vendors...they feel almost like friends and family and even if all you have ever done is communicate a little with them about a trip or a boat or a product...you are on a different plane of understanding and personal interest, just from that interaction. God bless.

Thinking this might be a good time to support CCS, and keep Dans talented crew at work, I asked him about what stuff CCS had in stock or took less of his time and energies.

Pioneeer, rucksack, and bushcrafter packs, thwart bags, stuff sacks and most accessories. Some tarps ready to go, the big thing is flexibility in color.

Hey, most places offer only one color choice.

I could have made my own Ridgeline tarp bags, certainly not as well constructed, and ordered two of these, one for the big Tundra tarp and one for the wifes new tarp. With order instructions Out of stock, no worries, I can wait.

Two days later the Cooke Custom Sewing Ridgeline Stuff Sacks are on the way.

Sacks, plural. I was not putting one on the wifes new easy-set-up tarp and not having one for our big Tundra tarp. I was already into it for her new Noah tarp, 100 feet of GloWire and sundry ease-of-set-up clips, Prussic lines, stakes and etc.

This HOOP/Windtrekker video on the CCS site resolved one of my concerns about using the Ridgeline stuff sack:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GqlFP8C_z10

In the pack or vehicle transport I carry our urethane nylon and sil-nylon tarps in compression bags, smushed down and reduced to minimal size. And store them at home in the same bag , voluminously uncompressed and fluffy, so the tarp can breathe. Tightly compressed storage does no favors to most fabrics, even when stored in a humidity controlled environment

The Cooke Ridgeline tarp stuff sack has a inner snakeskin-like extension that doubles the length, with cord locks at both the stuffed and extended sizes. I can just fluff the tarp out full length inside the expanded bag for breathable storage on the gear shelves at home, and smush it down half size into the same bag when packing.

I really could not have DIYed that functionality from a manufactured stuff bag with an end grommet; not long enough, and only one drawstring. Nor have ever hoped to sew one out of slippery and easy to stuff sil-nylon.

Freaking Hair Ties! Dammit, I am gonna need another 20-piece bag of hair ties. That means another oddball trip to the Ladies Hair Care aisle at Wal-Mart and I have no pony tail to restrain.

In for a penny, in for a pound; what am I offered to wrap a hair tie around my beard and ask some little old blue haired lady shopper Pardon me Madam, do you perhaps know where I might find elastic hair ties?

Conk , I bought a Warbonnet Ridgerunner hammock and have been using the ccs tarp. Did a lot of reading up on the Superfly and ready to but until...bcelect showed up a few weeks ago on a NJ paddle with his bridge hammock and Winter Haven SLD tarp! Huge! Now im even more confused.

Hello all,

Question on tarps. If ordering a CCS tarp (10 x 14) do you recommend going with the 1.1 or the 1.9 weight?

I know there is a price and weight difference, but outside of that, what are the pro's and con's?
