​I seen this video in the link above the other day and thought it might be a great upgrade for me. I have a huge fear of being swamped in cold water I know 2 people that have died from this. I survived a flip myself once in cold water close to shore but on something like this I think I could get back on unlike my 2 friends that didn't stand a chance when they tipped and filled with water in the middle of small lakes. Both unrelated at different times and there was actually another person I didn't know in the one accident that also died. This does look like it could carry my North Face tent and some supplies in that craft.

Most here use canoes as a SOT is impossible to portage.
I'm sorry for the loss of your friends. It always helps to get instruction. Just as in driving a car paddling instruction teaches you self rescue skills. It's unfortunate that new paddlers don't think they need it
It's not the craft as much as what skills you have learned and practiced

​My self rescue did work for me I swam to shore hanging onto my canoe that had flotation at each end enough to keep it from sinking like a rock. Cold water is best to avoid but we get anxious early spring then there's some people that don't have a choice up in Alaska...
