Judi and I were looking for some paddling adventures for the weekend. Initially we thought about poking around Watsons East Triangle, but the 3 hr. drive and obligations on Sunday made us look a little closer home so we settled on a day trip into Clockmill Pond near Piseco, NY, looping into Rock Lake. From the map and aerials there seemed to be enough there to keep us occupied for the day.
We left the car at the tiny trailhead on the Powley Piseco Road at about 10. The trail was fairly flat and after a little more than a mile of hiking, in spite of the dire warnings in the sign-in book of unmarked trails and lost hikers, we managed to find Clockmill Pond just fine.
Clockmill is an interesting pond with exposed ledge ridges protruding into the pond that create the fingers seen on the topos.
After exploring Clockmill we moved down the inlet toward Rock Lake.

On our way we encountered this young fella.
Water levels were generally low both on the pond and the outlet
but we managed to make it all the way to a short bushwhack to Rock Lake.
We circumnavigated Rock Lake and headed up the shallow inlet towards the unnamed pond to the north.
Eventually being forced to do a little leatherleaf surfing and dragged the boats the last couple of hundred yards to the pond.
Here we paddled to the far end and stepped up onto the trail to make our way back to the car ending a really beautiful trip on a gorgeous day.
