Rio Grande in Southern Colorado

Just did an overnight trip down a class I section of the Rio Grande, below Alamosa, CO.
Very nice. Lucked out on weather and water level.
High dessert country. River meanders among hills with huge snowcapped peaks as a backdrop.

High desert. Dessert is for after dinner.
How long was your run? Most of the upper RG is pretty fast and not suitable for canoes.
I used to work around it a lot.

Dang! I'm always getting that spelling wrong.
It was an overnight and class I. Some riffles, some gravel bars, but pretty mellow other than that.
The trip was originally planned to be longer but, at the water level we had, there was a rock garden at the end that the leader decided to avoid.
There is another class I section farther up, known as Antelope Park, that I'd like to do.
The road, to the put-in, is through a wetland and there had been a lot of rain in the days leading up to the trip. We had to drive through some pretty deep standing water. Hight clearance vehicles recommended.
