R.I.P. Andy

Sad news. I remember Andy when I first joined the online canoeing community on P.net around 20 years ago. I always made a point to read his posts. He seemed very kind and happy to share what he knew.

Sad news, indeed.

@Andy Sz, a passionate sea kayaker, was a fairly active member here for 10 years, after he saw the benefits of owning an open canoe, a Sawyer Summersong he proudly restored. I remember well when he invited me to paddle out to Liberty Island in NYC harbor to watch the Tall Ships parade during Operation Sail in 2012, a trip that fell through at the last minute.

RIP, Andy, and prayers to you and your loved ones.

Yeah, Andy was one of those I never skipped over. I remember how excited he was about that Summersong. Due entirely to his comments, that one has always been on my BOLO list. Godspeed, Andy.

Sad to hear. He was a nice guy that I got to meet a few times in the old p-net days. He took great photos. Thanks for the post KK.

I just read a long thread that Andy started on p.com when he was diagnosed with incurable ALS. He kept posting as the disease got worse and worse. Very brave of him to do that.

He got to paddle at least one last time in the Poconos with family members helping him in and out of his kayak. He kept trying to get accepted into an experimental drug trial at Columbia University in NYC for some supposed miracle drug. His last post was that he had finally been accepted into the trial.

Then five months of silence.

Then an obituary.
