We did this trip in June 2004, 8 of us in 5 canoes. We where out for 7 days and we spent alot of time fishing, which turned out to be a good idea, the fishing was great.
We put in at Nym Lake, and traveled through Batchewaung, down to Walter, through Lonely to Sturgeon Lake, east to Twin Lakes, then up through Pickerel Narrows on Pickerel Lake, west back to Baychewaung Lake to Nym lake.
It was cold the first two days....
I dressed in everything I had to stay warm...
It diidn't take long for things to warm up, Harry S on the left, Tony and Mark with a nice lake trout..
Ron W with a nice pair of lakers...
Mark with another laker...
Kicking back at lunch, and enjoying the warm sun...
l-r Harry S, Robin, Mark, Tony, Daniel S and young John JR standing,
Group Trips and traffic jams at the take out for a portage...
Tony and Mark with Marks Camper. Mark has a nice kevlar Wenona that was made for this area, but he chose the Camper.
Mark and Tony out front, can't wait to get the lines in the water, I'm next in my Chestnut Chum, and Daniel follows in his rented Souris River rental....
Ron and Harry waited for us to leave, then they fished under the falls in a stream that the portage trail followed to the lake. This fish was released.
I carried that crock pot for 7 days for this one meal,
...(not my favorite way to cook Walleyes on the trail....
Harry and Ron with a stringer..
A real nice campsite on Sturgeon Lake....
Same campsite, beautiful country...
A bay back behind the site...
Young Daniel with a pike...
Father and Son enjoying a sunset....
Mark with map, Harry with another coffee...
A pike came along at night and swallowed a pickerel on the stringer, he tasted pretty good....
There's a reason you don't see me holding any fish, I'm just no where near as good a fisherman as these guys. It was a fun trip in a great canoeing location.
