During last winter I began to hear rumblings of Hemlock experimenting with a new layup and fabric colors. Fast forward to this years WPASCR where a stunning Hemlock Kestrel in purple was part of the 2025 demo fleet. Long story short while chatting with owner Matt Casavaugh we came up with an Eaglet design that I could not be happier with.

I went with the Eaglet "Solo" with purple fabric and a black carbon interior. In order to save an extra few ounces we omitted the carry handles. Paul "Conk" Conklin as usual knocked it out of the park with his custom double "Conk" seat. My original Eaglet "Combi" in lite-tech came in at 42#'s and set up as a solo came in at 38#'s which I traded in to Hemlock towards the new Eaglet which now tips the scales at 32#....

Joe, are you bringing it up to Fish Creek this weekend?

Looks really lovely, Joe. So interesting that Matt is experimenting with pure carbon fabric. Is the color created by purple gelcoat or by a purple fabric under a clear gelcoat a la Swift?

Also, do you have on a purple shirt and PFD in your avatar photo?

Beautiful boat Joe! They’re doing some cool stuff over at Hemlock. New colors, innegra layup, etc., all good stuff, love to see it! Their work always looks top notch and it’s good to see the quality is still there through their ownership transition and also while trying new things/innovating. I’ve spoken to Matt a few times on the phone and he seems like a great guy to work with. Enjoy that beauty, I hope we get to see it on one of your YouTube videos sometime!

Matt is experimenting different layups. I know he has an SRT in IXP he is testing. Also mine is a purple fabric and no gel coat. I think my shirt is a blue in the avatar

Yes love that they are trying new things. I've been saying a boat is a boat is a boat for a while now. You can only make so much $ off the boat itself. This is what Swift has figured out. Like buying a car, it is all about choice an options.

This is correct. And only attracts more money. Hemlock canoes are great, I have one, and love it. I love innovation and all that. But what about "the little guy"? Dollars are tight, options are slim, and borders are costly. But besides that, it is a really beautiful canoe.

I totally agree and it is a double edge sword. Wish I had the answers.

Is there no limit to color choice since it is a dyed fabric? Sorry Ripple but you have to pay to play but I am with you but my $250 OT Camper sure was heavy getting it to the water this last weekend. All my boats get covered in Iowa farm field silt and I can only imagine the horror of getting it all over that nice purple eaglet.

Not sure honestly on color choices but I would assume so as it is a dyed fabric
