After this extended dry spell, I'm leaving for a canoe trip tomorrow night. Supposed to rain like mad on Wednesday. You're welcome! Anyway it's a new river trail, they're adding a bunch of campsites along the way, and it's really the only game in town till the rivers fill back up. The trail is a hundred miles but we're only doing a 3 night section from Mattawamkeag to Old Town. Me and Doug Doremus met a game warden by the name of Jim Fahey about 20 years ago and I found out now he's in the shuttle business. If you ever want to ride in the truck and listen to Jim describe all the rotted corpses he's pulled out of the river, he's your man.

My daughter Lori Perez (from Unity College) and her husband know Jim Fahey, she says he’s a nice guy. I hope you give a TR or even a write up on your website, I’m interested in knowing more about this river trip.
Thanks

The main stem of the Penobscot is really quite scenic. Like a lot of big rivers it was filthy back in the day but now you can swim in it. On my bucket list is the "paddle home (Bangor) from Greenville" trip, which is more or less what Thoreau did in 1857 (with Penobscot guide Joe Polis keeping him out of trouble). Before this new trail that would have required some rogue camping on the stretch down from Medway.

Anyhow, looking forward to that trip report!

Edit: added a photo. This is some islands near Greenbush.
