Lots of good info here... some have large sensors and good image quality while still compact and pocketable. PC Mag tests image quality using a more objective lab method (Imatest)... some tests show good sharpness right to the image edge as well as higher resolution overall... I haven't read them all but it's a start. The most expensive Sony RX-100s are reviewed twice, as well as some that might be adequate while not overspending.

More reviews here, for a large number of cameras going back to 2010 at least... sample pix are included for comparison. Sony's RX-100 VI provides high quality results for a compact pocket camera, with the RX-99 said to be one of the best under $500. Some waterproof compacts are also reviewed, as well as phone cameras.

PS... some of the phone cameras provide good image quality for a sensor so small, if multiple-use is wanted to minimize gear.
