"Did you know North Alabama is home to the first designated wilderness east of the Mississippi? It also has the longest commercially supported stretch of paddling in Alabama, 30,000 migrating Sandhill cranes, and the miracle mile of bass fishing."

HERE is a link to a PDF North Alabama paddling guide that has maps and pictures.

Thank you for that link. I've never paddled in north Alabama. Years ago at Easter break several of us from south Louisiana met at a campground in north Alabama with plans to paddle the Locust Fork. At the same time however, a cold front came through; the high on our first day there was around 30. We hung out at the campsite figuring we would wait a day or two for warmer weather. The first couple of days it stayed below freezing all day - not expected Easter-time weather! We discussed options and decided the temperature made paddling too risky - our neoprene layers just wouldn't be enough. After hiking a little and touring the area a little we headed home without ever taking canoes off of vehicles.
