4 of us went for our annual day trip into the Minesing Wetlands. The weather was finally perfect. This is one of those paddles that most people ignore. The idea of paddling through a swamp doesn't sound like a great idea to many.
We put in at the Willow Creek landing. This is a relatively straight section but it narrows down into a fairly quick running, twisting creek within the first 15 minutes. This changes several times. There is a large section in the middle that has one of the largest Blue Heron nesting areas in Southern Ontario. The final couple of hours takes you through flooded hardwood forests.

Good day out. It's a relief to see some high water after such little snow pack in places. I guess you folks in Barrie don't need to worry about not enough snow? Thanks for the day paddle!

That looks like a cool place to paddle. One of the things I like about canoes is getting into the diverse waterways. It's not always a typical lake or a typical river like it is with a power boat. Something different is always nice.

Was always fun doing that trip. Except that one time we couldn't find our way out and thought we were going to spend an evening sleeping in the canoes. That turned out okay though

No Title

We found that when it is flooded more than usual and you can leave the channel to explore, look under the surface of the water at the fine vegetation...it always points towards the outlet at the Nottawasaga River. That would not ne a fun place to overnight. Not much dry land! We know we are getting close to the end when we hit the "face" tree.
