Lake Superior National Marine Conservation Area July 20-30, 2015

Neat.. We are trying again next year. We did half of your route last year. Ended up not going to Simpson Island. We had fog and rain for three days on Harry Island and the forecast for the next week was continued rain and cold ( 40s). We gave up and went to the Apostles instead.

While the Park was formally announced just recently its been on paper and called that for some time now and in 2012 a guidebook was published.

we were using that for planning as its got the majority of proven campsites on it.

That guidebook was very helpful for us. The authors even signed it. The map from the outfitter noted a few campsites that were not in the guidebook. The one on Cumina Island for example was very helpful for our planning. The guidebook had some which were not on the outfitters map as well. We were on the constant look out for "potential" campsites if the conditions changed quickly. I hope you get a chance to get around Simpson, it was spectacular.

Camping on Crown Land is always sticky for us non residents of Canada. The trouble is few places sell the permits. There are sometimes a couple of choices..one is to ignore the regulation under the "they'll never find us/ask " supposition. The other is to pay an outfitter to rent you your tent. This usually works out to way less than the normal method. We did visit the outfitter in Rossport with the unfilled out Crown Land permit. We had gotten the blank from Naturally Superior Outfitters in Michipicoten but David works with the Rossport guy and wanted him to have the money as the lands are in the Rossport area and nowhere near NSA.. I don't remember the name of the Rossport outfitter but he was kind of amused that someone would come into his shop and ask to pay him for something that was not a service nor a good.

We never paid to launch..just went off the grass to the side.. and the kid was there.. We had a mountain of gear to load which took some time and there were folks using the launch.
