First, a video that explains the three levels of disability that characterize the single blade paracanoe flatwater sprint race classes: VL1, VL2, VL3. V stands for va'a, which is an outrigger canoe with no rudder or skeg. The 1, 2 and 3 relate to different levels of disability.

Here are the men's VL2 and VL3 200m finals. The L2 paracanoeists are the intermediately disabled and the L3s are the least disabled of the three classes of disability. Note that all the paddlers paddle on only one side and that side is always the ama side. I assume they paddle on the ama side because that is the more stable side for the fast torso contortions of a sprint race.
