Hey gang, ran across this site while looking for wannigan info and found you have a trad. gear sub forum, which immediately got my interest.
I'm far from an advanced paddler or tripper, but typically get a few trips on the Manistee R. here in MI and have done some tripping in BWCA, Algonquin, Adirondacks, French R. etc. Canoeing has supplanted backpacking as my preferred outdoor activity. For trips close to home or with limited portaging I'll use my Wenonah Spirit II Tuff-weave, but if serious portaging is expected I typically rent something made of kevlar. I also have a Northland wooden canoe that my folks commissioned in 1972 that got fairly well abused when I was a kid but my Dad resurrected it from a pretty sad state and gave it to my wife and I as a wedding present. I'll take that to the lake across the street for a nice solo paddle fairly often on evenings after work.
