Center float bag on the cheap?

This came about quite by accident. We have a couple of inexpensive airbed mattresses for when we have a houseful, and one sprung a (very) slow leak, likely from thorny outside use.

I set it out in the shop to find the pinhole and a day later it had finally sagged enough to fold in half. 80” long by (folded in half lengthwise) 30” wide. 8.75” thick unfolded, doubled over to 17” is deep enough for most any canoe.

The material, designed to hold the weight of two people, is much thicker than the average float bag. I wish it wasn’t “plush” on one side, but for $10 - $15 wadda ya gonna do.

A cheapo battery op pump that fits the purge valve runs another $10. We have one but I just used the shop vac in reverse to inflate it. Fills the center of a tandem hull under lacing cord nicely.

No inflation tube or corner ties; I’m tempted to try some installing four corner tie loops using vinyl adhesive.

Much more form filling than truck tires in a pinch.
