14 mile paddle to the take out in Allagash. 2 hr. 45 min. High water makes for fast current. My second trip by canoe. Been to falls by snowmobile a few times in winter. Up the St. John from Fort Kent then up the Allagash river, that's how I know it's 14 miles. Some in the party had never been, some this was the third time, and one had never camped before. Really like my wenonah wilderness. I could pass the fully loaded canoes with 2 paddlers. Did hit a few rocks in the fast water and got spun around and almost dumped twice. I'm still learning the canoe. Handles great in the wind. Being a solo canoe and sitting in the center you don't find the canoe heading up or spinning around in strong wind. The wind came up strong on Long Lake, one party got pushed ashore, the others took cover on the lee side of the lake. I just powered through without even getting wet. The bent shaft paddle helped here. Great trip and I'm planning to do it solo later in season.
