Where did you go after Sandy? The trouble with early May is that the campsites are usually awash.. Sandy is pretty low too.

Dave where did you stay on Round Pond? We're looking at going to Squirrels Pocket or Back Channel and it appears you stayed at one of those from what I can see in this tiny picture. Did you find one better then the other

Is it me or are the pictures real small even after clicking on them?

Nice Hat!
How where the bugs, and fishing? 5/10 was probably before any bugs.
See any moose? I have Super 8's movies of a moose on the Allagash with my brothers, first Moose for me, unforgettable memories!

Thanks for sharing.

The pictures are real small. I do like how they don' t take up the whole screen (unlike mine) but wish they got a little bigger when clicked. Gil Gilpatricks wife Dot swears by Squirrel Pocket.

Looks like nice country, and a fine trip. Thanks Dave. I see no bug nets, so you must've timed the season perfectly! Is it still nippy at night? I bet a hot coffee round the breakfast fire starts each day off just right. Keep the pics coming!

Yes we saw moose. Moose in bad shape from the winter ticks. They have rubbed off a lot of hair trying to get rid of the ticks. We stayed at Inlet site for 2 nights. No bugs. Frost on my fly rod case in morning.

Water was 45 Deg. Fishing slow. Needed large site for 6 tents. Both Long Lake site and Inlet site have plenty of room. Left in rain. 48 Deg. 18 mile paddle to the falls.

Had to stop and warm 2 people up, they were shivering. Stopped to see the old logging equipment and then at ranger station to self check in.

2 nights at falls. 80 Deg. On one afternoon. Falls unbelievable in high water. White noise. Had Ployes ( buckwheat pancakes) only one dry site at falls, some still had ice. No bugs.

Portage the canoes. The ring in rock is leftover from bringing the longboats up around falls in the 1800s for the logging operations.

14 mile paddle to the take out in Allagash. 2 hr. 45 min. High water makes for fast current. My second trip by canoe. Been to falls by snowmobile a few times in winter. Up the St. John from Fort Kent then up the Allagash river, that's how I know it's 14 miles. Some in the party had never been, some this was the third time, and one had never camped before. Really like my wenonah wilderness. I could pass the fully loaded canoes with 2 paddlers. Did hit a few rocks in the fast water and got spun around and almost dumped twice. I'm still learning the canoe. Handles great in the wind. Being a solo canoe and sitting in the center you don't find the canoe heading up or spinning around in strong wind. The wind came up strong on Long Lake, one party got pushed ashore, the others took cover on the lee side of the lake. I just powered through without even getting wet. The bent shaft paddle helped here. Great trip and I'm planning to do it solo later in season.

Nice looking trip Dave. You had quite a mix of paddlers. That's good. Careful now. You just might be signed up to lead an Allagash annual. That could be a good thing too. Thanks for sharing.

I've got to get to the Allagash. I'll be planning for next year.

Thanks for taking the time to post all the photos and the report.
