We (read, my wife) mark our gear is various ways. 'Stuff' happens on long, big water trips, from crashed boats to simply leaving gear in the last camp.

'Condor' offers several classic knife designs in the $40ish range in high carbon steel and wood. Thier 'Nessmuk' rendition would make a good general purpose outdoor knife IMO and they have several bushcraft styles. Deciding on gift knives for budding outdoorsmen is a good problem to have :- )

Don't sell yourself short Mike :- ) Most folks drawing permits for the GC aren't SW boaters, a goodly percentile aren't even rafters per se' and outfit everything including the chow and do just fine. I've done trips with folks in that group and have had a great time. Even if folks are rafters...

Hammock on the GC is no bueno' for the most part. The wife and I put our two Paco's under the floor of our free standing tent, makes the mattress, protects the tent floor and keeps it up off the wet ground. Speaking of tents, those that have a lot of bug net in the tent body with a fly over it...
