Bugs in Tent: How to keep them out, kill, or tolerate them?

Good old canoetripping.net, you might arrive here with money, but you will leave with none, lol. I can't remember how many semi-useful things I have rushed to buy after reading one of these threads.

    What's up at myccr.com?

For those of us who have been around for a while, the evolution (devolution?) of myccr has been an interesting spectacle. It was the very first canoe forum I joined, I think around 1999, and it was a very exciting time for me. I learned lots about new equipment options, met many excellent...

    What's up at myccr.com?

Ya, I wasn't able to do anything on the site, must be some kind of technical difficulties going on.

I'm still kinda stuck on the chicken, probably would prefer an "almost pants" pic to that stewing mass of biological contaminant. Just Kidd'n, keep the pictures coming.

Bugs in Tent: How to keep them out, kill, or tolerate them?

I don't know if you have Pic in the States, but it is coiled bug killer, usually green, you light it with a lighter and it smoulders. When you are in the tent for good, light a small piece, 1/2 inch is usually enough, let it smoulder for about 5 minutes, all bugs will be dead. It is standard...

I will often try to remember to manufacture some narrow strips for that area, 1/2 inch or less, they tend to be very twist tolerant.

Your woodworking skills are much more refined than mine. I can only show you some wood butchery as to how I end up mating the two stems together. It looks like you are altering the internal stem at the point where I would be altering the external stem. My channel for the external starts right...

I dunno, that unrefrigerated chicken was probably just about ready to fly again on its own, propelled by multiple hosts of winged bacteria. How long do you keep one of those things going?

    Felt safe until now

That's pretty much the reason I don't take a gun on a regular canoe trip where I am not hunting. It's just a pain to lug around. Plus, I don't feel it is right to leave it unattended at one end of a port, so I would have to carry it all the time. It's Canada, so we are talking about a shotgun...

If you do it strip by strip, it is fairly easy. I usually wait til the end though, draw two lines and cut them with an exacto knife. Touch it up with a sanding stick or a rasp. Fine art of wood butchery.

I think you are on to something Alan. I know the next bit might seem like it is not canoe related, but in actuality, it is totally canoe related, and probably explains why a lot of us go wilderness canoeing. In my first year psych class, many moons ago, we looked at the rat studies conducted by...

The inner stem is fine, it should be flush with the top of the station. The channel for the outer stem is carved from the covering cedar, so the outer stem is only about a 1/4 inch when planed down close to the stem, and then gradually gets thicker as one approaches the turn. Once you have done...

The murkey world of Canadian firearms laws.....In actuality, a non semi automatic shotgun (break action, double barrel, pump) can have a barrel as short as 8.5 inches, as long as the overall length of the shotgun is 23 inches or more. However, the short barrel has to come from the factory. If...

A New Challenge: Cats in a Canoe?

I've been re-thinking my previous goat post, where I described the benefits of taking a goat on a canoe trip. Endless hours of entertainment, putting panniers on the goat to carry stuff, not needing to bring food cause the goat will eat anything, and finally, being able to eat the goat toward...

Interesting perspective on heaters. In Northern Ontario, we are allowed to carry long guns for wilderness protection all summer long. No hand guns of course, but a short barrelled 12 gauge is a fairly offensive looking thing. The thing is, we only carry if we feel like bears might be a...

I was guiding a couple down the Steel River. As we approached Deadhorse Creek bridge, there was some debate between them about ending the trip early. I said I would go up on the road and stop the first vehicle that came along, ask for a ride back to my truck, and return for them. There was...

Ai bots threaten the digital canoeing world

Greetings fellow wilderness canoe trippers! I am thrilled to have found this forum where I can connect with other like-minded individuals who share my passion for exploring the great outdoors by canoe. I have been paddling and portaging through the wilderness for years, seeking out remote lakes...

I use staples and bead and cove, so a hull the size of an osprey can usually be planked quite quickly. I don't think I would have the patience to do it your way, but aesthetics have never been big in my wood butchery.
