    Just ordered a SPOT II

No Title rpg51, Northern Baffin Island in Nunavut. That's about 430 miles north of the arctic circle. We paddled folding kayaks and started on July 26 about a week after the pack ice broke up.

    Thoughts on Wenonah Argosy?

Fish Monger, Take a look at the Wenonah Wilderness. It is a big guy solo. I have one and I go about 230. I paddled one that I didn't own about 20 lbs ago and it was fine. I have the seat locked in it's lowest position as I don't kneel (knee operations in my youth and subsequent adventures) and...

My canoe is finally here! (pic heavy)

Shellac is not varnish. The solvent for Shellac is alcohol. You can smooth out any scratches in the field with a small sacrifice of whatever alcohol you are carrying. I wonder how high a proof it needs to be to polish out scratches?

Questions about functions and terminology of the site software

Another thing I noticed: If there are multiple pages of posts in a thread ( let's say 18 pages since I just found one like that), do you have to click on the "go to next page" arrow 18 times to see the latest post? Other forums seem to have a "Last" button or allow you to skip 4 or 5 pages at...

My canoe is finally here! (pic heavy)

Envious! Is that a nice little bronze(?) cap at the stem tips? What is the advantage of a shellacked bottom in lieu of paint? Sorry about the knee. I have scars on both knees from meniscus surgery before arthroscopes were invented. Regards, Dave

A Canoe called Joe Gets and Education

Good luck and have fun. I am doing a 2 week trip down the Connecticut River at the end of this month starting the 28thor 29th, a section of which is part of the NFCT as you know. Perhaps we will intersect. I'll keep a lookout for you. Dave

Questions about functions and terminology of the site software

What is driving me crazy is that old posts that I have clicked on and read still show in bold as though I have not read them. The "mark this channel read" button works on the forum heading but NOT ON THE INDIVIDUAL POSTS.

Missouri Breaks Canoe Trip May 19-23 2014

Enjoyed your report. Different type of country than most of us are used to. I guess that's what makes it attractive.

    Greetings from the Old Dominion

Welcome aboard, CoreyR. We have a number of vets here and although we don't know exactly what you went through we can appreciate your sacrifices. We also have a brotherhood and sisterhood of canoeists of all levels of experience and expertise. I have learned a lot and made some friends here and...

    LaVerendrye video

Not really a stripper. Looks like a traditional planked wood canoe with ribs and half ribs but fiberglassed.. Might look better with a painted exterior.

    FS: Wenonah Wilderness

I agree with everything you commented on. An underappreciated canoe. I put some nylon washers on those shoulder bolts so I could fix the seat in one position to get rid of all that rattling . Dave

    FS: Wenonah Wilderness

I have a Wilderness in the UL layup (32 lbs). Is there something you didn't like about the canoe? Just curious. Good luck selling it. I find it just about perfect for what I do. Regards, Dave
