Hello from Florida!

I just tuned into this forum after reading @Glenn MacGrady bio in the Fall 25 issue from WCHA. Originally from the Midwest, I grew up going down the Jacks Fork and the Current River in Alumacraft canoes. I made a foolish decision to sell my Mad River Explorer in Royalex after I got married, after paddling kayaks for about 9 years. Luckily, the decision led to a healthy marriage for the past 13 years. I came to my senses, though, and sold all the kayaks off and picked up a Wenonah Wilderness in 2020, and last October, I picked up my first WC, a 1964 Old Town 50lb.

Anyway, thanks for the add. Looking forward to swapping ideas, stories, and advice.

Hi Jim, Welcome to the site.
Thats interesting, "last October, I picked up my first wc canoe, a 1964 Old Town 50lb."
Like you already know one wood canvas canoe will never be enough!
50lber is a really nice canoe.

Nice photo of your 50 pounder with the traditional paddles and pack basket. We like that kind of stuff.
Much appreciated. I have definitely tried to reach further and further back in time with my gear over the last several years. I plan to post up some photos of the wannigan. It is what really kicked off my love for traditional gear after I built it.

Jim, welcome to site membership!

Where were those "swampy" photos in your OP and avatar taken?
