Turtle Flambeau Flowage , my pup Max ‘s first trip … success!!

It can be crowded, especailly during a holiday ... stay clear over the 4th of July ... Yuk. When putting in at Murray's Landing it is better as it is a no wake zone for motor boaters and is a quiet zone. There is no portaging, or at least almost none. That can be both good and bad. It is nice to be able to take a bit more comfort gear with out fear of weight penalty - portaging for miles. But others can bring lots of stuff too - like boom boxes and heavily laden coolers. To that end, I have not had problems with noise or folks lacking reverence for the place ... but I know it can happen.

Is it crowded and noisy during the summer?
Depends on your tolerance for it. Its not like a cottage lake or anything, but its got a lot of fishing traffic. The flowage has a lot of obstacles, so not very popular with rec boaters and wave runners. Watch for fishing tournament weekends and hunting openers. We went one year during the first week of waterfowl season. That turns the quiet zone into the busiest area because of the hydrology/topography.

We usually see fewer people than we did in the BWCA, by a wide margin, but they are generally motorized.

Bob B. below your comment nailed it. The quiet water section is nice. Really nice if the water is lower which keeps a lot of the motor traffic out of that "Voluntary Quiet Waters" section due to shallow stump fields and weeds.
And that's ok because it's my favorite part of the lake.
The fishing is good also.
